Individual case record
On 23 July 2025, Strike 3 Holdings, LLC filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms, Inc. alleging that Meta engaged in extensive, willful copyright infringement by downloading and redistributing over 2,300 copyrighted adult films owned by Strike 3 Holdings and Counterlife, LLC. The Plaintiffs, known for their premium adult film brands, claim Meta used BitTorrent networks to obtain and distribute their works as training data for AI systems such as Meta Movie Gen and LLaMA. According to the complaint, Meta employees intentionally used both corporate and “off-infrastructure” IP addresses to conceal BitTorrent activity, downloading over 80 terabytes of pirated materials, relying on materials from the earlier Kadrey v. Meta litigation. Plaintiffs’ proprietary tools allegedly traced over 100,000 unauthorized transactions of their works to Meta-controlled IPs, including hidden data centers and residential addresses.
The Plaintiffs contend that Meta’s conduct was commercial and systematic—using Plaintiffs’ highly detailed 4K motion pictures to enhance AI training on human form, motion, and expression. The action seeks statutory damages and injunctive relief under 17 U.S.C. § 501.
